sensible mom {bahahaha}

As I type this,
I have a battle going on inside me.

Giddy-inner-child vs. Sensible-mom

You see,
I am facing another snow day today.

Another day of this...

and this.

But hopefully not this...

**Boys making cookies**
Paying little attention to the recipe.
Or kitchen etiquette.

But they had fun.
And I must admit, the cookies were delicious.

So we'll see what today brings.
Maybe I'll talk my girlies into going outside.
Oh wait...it's me who needs
to be talked into that.

Or maybe Sensible Mom will prevail and we'll get some school work
done.

Bahahahaha.

That's funny.

Nickerdoodle

We're in the middle of a snowing frenzy here.
And even though last year's incredibly long, white winter lasted forever
(leaving me longing for Maui),
I am loving it!

School is out.
Yes, even homeschool.

I'm not only an incredibly fun mom, but also blast of a teacher.

Last night we had a semi-fun evening.
Just keepin' it real, folks.
It was a tad on the boring side, I'm not gonna lie.

But we still managed to do a few exciting things.

Macy tried to teach Kelly some Chinese.
Look how much fun they're having!

Are those daggers coming from Macy's eyes? And now that January is in full swing,
I figured it was time to make our Christmas cookies.

Yes, I know...I'm a slacker.
And I'm pretty sure I've violated Proverbs 31 for not being
more timely about it.

Oh, and you'll never guess who the number one kid was who wanted
the above mentioned cookies.

Nickerdoodle!

He turned from this soft-cookie-hearted guy quickly, however,
when I took this pic.

With threats, even.

But I'm confident he doesn't ever read my blog so I feel safe.
Though please do check in on me over the next 24 hours, would you?

Lucy had the most fun.
Poor little cookie cutey,
Mama only had green food coloring.
How in the world did I ever get approved for adoption
with this kind of neglect?

Merry Christmas!
Or something like that.

baking mishaps

The girls and I made Valentine cookies tonight
and Lucy is the only one who let me take
pics of her.

Ahem.

Between you and me, the camera-shy thing is wearing thin
on me. For golly's sake the girl's gotta learn
that in a family....we take lots of pictures!

I'm not sure if there is an issue over her not wanting me
to post them on my blog or not....
if so, I guess it will come to me having to promise her that I won't post
them anymore.

I told her recently that she is going to have to let me
take some though because our post-placement
report is due soon and they require a certain amount of pics.

Anyway,
here is Lucy....
with her cookie that she spent, what seemed like hours,
frosting. Only to drop it on the floor (icing side down, of course),
she retrieved it, continued her task and then broke
it in half.
And then announced that that one was for Brenden.

Nice.

No baking mishaps will wipe the smile off this
sweetie girl!!

Here is Nick
(who never minds a good photo of him being shown to the world)
at his basketball game the other night.

Not much else to report to ya'll.

I'm not sure how I can be so crazy-busy every
second of the day,
but not having anything to say.

I must be coming down with something.

cookies and milk anyone?

I got a ton of packing done yesterday!
It's almost complete...just the last minute things
and I'll be good to go.
Woo!
And just between you and me,

I may have room to squeeze my pink robe in!
Shhhh.

Lucy and I made cookies yesterday afternoon.
And her poor placement of the dough aside,
we have a bigger issue on our hands.
Or, off our hands....

Yes, that's Lucy's band-aid that
fell off.

I'll be sure to warn you should she ever
get a job in the food industry.

Cookies and milk anyone??

Sparce on Chocolate Chips

Adoption Update: TODAY our I800A application & homestudy are being sent to USCIS!!! We have requested that they expedite getting us our case number. Once we have the number, our state Senator has promised to help us get through quickly (that word is relative of course!). But my friend Patty said she just heard of two families that got through in about 6 weeks without any help. Six weeks would be awesome!! In the meantime, I'm working hard on our dossier. Thankfully, it's not near as much work as the homestudy. Please pray that everything goes smoothly!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucy LOVES to help in the kitchen....I have to sneak to unload the dishwasher if I don't want here right there with me! Any task I'm doing she'll say, "I help you Mama!" Sweet little pumpkin!! But, we all know that she will outgrow it.

The minute she got word that I was going to make cookies, there she was, all ready to go. How could I turn down such an adorable helper??

It would appear here that I have just planted my elbow in Lucy's sweet little face, but I assure you that I did not! Here we see Lucy sneaking a cookie...she had no idea I was watching her until she saw the flash from my camera!

Everytime I make cookies I always make a double batch. I bake about a dozen or so then roll the remaining dough in balls & put it in the freezer. That way, we can pull out however many cookies we want at any time and plop them on a cookie sheet & have hot, fresh baked cookies at any time.

Well, this time when I added the chocolate chips I apparently didn't get them stirred through the dough well enough & my first batch was a little sparce on chips. :( As Brenden sat down to eat one last night he started to bite it then examined it...."Mom, I only see one chip in this cookie...*sigh*" Then with his charming sarcasm he says..."wow, I'm sure excited to finally get to the chocolate chip...(bite, chew, bite, chew)...I'm getting closer...(bite, chew)...look Mom, I'm about to get the chip!...yumm, that was great!" Smartie pants.
