My Spring Break (South of France, Food Network, Freak Flag)

Hello.  Hello?  (Tap, tap, tap)  Is this thing on?

Once again, I beg your pardon for my extreme absence.  I really should have been chronicling my life in the last week, because, wow, has it been exciting!

I'll let you try to guess what I've been up to.  Was I:

A.  Enjoying a glamorous vacation in the south of France.
B.  Busy developing a new Food Network show called, "Lori's Kitchen: How to Train Your Family to Never Complain About Your Cooking, Lest They Die".
C.  Hanging on by a mere thread in full spring-break-survival-mode (dysfunction freak flag flying high).

Ding, ding, ding!  I wish you didn't know me so well.  Yes, it's A.  I kid, I kid.  Truth is, I've been steeping in option C.  But since I don't want to show you too much of the Debbie Downer side of me, I'll stop right there.

The good news is, school is back in full swing in two more days!  And with a steady stream of coffee, medication, and a semi-normalcy, I'll be back to my old self in no time.

As for this weekend, I am putting together my weekly baked goodies order, planning/fixing weekend meals, doing laundry, taking care of chickens and children...and working at my waitressing job (the paid and unpaid one). :)

By the way, I know it's so not politically correct to use the word waitress anymore.  But, dang it, I like it.  I prefer to see myself as a 70s-type gal, ya know?

And that's exactly how I wear my hair to work, too.  (Oh, I wish!)

Anyway, that's about all that's happening here, ya'll.  I gotta get busy now or none of the above is going to happen.  Productive Procrastinator is my middle name!

Enjoy your weekend immensely, alirghty?

Love ya!

Skillet-Meals (and the circle of life)

Hello.  Hello?  Is anyone still reading this measly blog of mine?

For the two or three of you who are, my deepest apologies for being neglectful.  Life has me by the horns, I'm telling you.  And Brenden was home all week for spring break, and not that he sucked up all of my time or anything, but, I am using him as my excuse for having fallen short of holding up my part of my cyber relationship with you all.

Having said all that, here I am!

Besides my photos of B's birthday celebration, I have nary a picture to post of his visit back home.

Well, except these:

You see, Brenden loves to make skillet-type meals.  Potatoes, sausage, eggs, and whatever else he can find in the fridge that he deems skillet-worthy.

And one day, he made something skillet-fabulous, sat down in the living room to eat it, then left it on the coffee table for the children to finish.

And finish it, Isaiah did.  Pitiful?  I'd say so.

It's the circle of life, folks.

And just like that, Brenden went back to college to do his collegy things.

As for me, I'm hunkering down for another crazy week, because life here is never lacking something to do, albeit ever so mundane.

Now, let's go out there and have us a great week, alrighty?

random

A few random thoughts.

*  I was so tickled this morning when I remembered that it was St. Patrick's Day,
and looked down to see that I had put on a green t-shirt.
I didn't even plan it.
I'm just so incoherently on top of things, that's all.

*  There are two things in life that I really hate to break in.
1.  New sheets for my bed.
2.  New mascara.
I'm currently enduring #1 right now.
Once I get over that, I'll buy some mascara.
(Oh, the hardships of being a first-world housewife.)

*  Spring break will finally be over for me after today, and I survived.
(Though I do have a twitch that I'm a bit worried about.)

*  I love how God gives abundance...if we trust Him!
*SMILE!*

*  Now that the snow has melted, my hens are laying more eggs.
And they are no longer considered to be dinner-options, for now.

And here are a few pictures of our wildly exciting spring break:

(She is SO going to kill me for this!  Well, it pays to smile.  Lesson learned.)

Over and out!

cowboy boots at walmart

Today was THE best weather day thus far this year.
Though I do love me a big ol' blizzard to mix it up a bit once in a while,
this 80 degree business just does it for me.
But not any hotter, please.
Thank you.
And if you could arrange some palm tress to start growing here in Kansas,
I'll put you in my will.

This week has been the most boring spring break known to mankind.
And I take full responsibility.
I will be accepting the "Boring Mom of the Year" award later this month.
Be watching for that.
And thank you to my kids for nominating me.

But we did go to Walmart today.
And Isaiah wore his cowboy boots and shorts.
I was a little alarmed at first,
then I looked around...and realized all was just fine.
We were downright classy, comparably.

And that's about all that's going on here today.
Macy and Eli made a clean getaway with my mom this morning
and will no doubt have gobs of fun getting out of this blasted house.
Good for them!!!!
Save yourselves, is what I always say.

Have a super duper weekend!!

sweet freedom {grumpy old lady}

I'm not going to sugar-coat this spring break thing.
I'm dying here.
I'm about to go out back for a smoke.

Last week the college people were here on break,
this week my Middles are on break,
and next week it's the Littles' turn.

Could we possibly coordinate our schedules here, please?

I am quickly becoming like one of those grumpy old women in the nursing home
who knows if someone has moved her stuff.
Or changed the lunch menu.
Or stole a pair of her polyester slacks out of the laundry.
Dang it, who has my polyester slacks??

Truly, intervention would be nice.
Someone get on that.

In the meantime,  I have my chickens to take care of when I need some respite time.
And do they ever appreciate me!
Actually, I don't think they even know who I am, or ALL that I do for them.
The theme continues!

Did someone say something about going out back for a smoke?

*****

Here is my little Isaiah-man who proudly brought me a branch to put in a vase.
Gotta love this little gentleman-in-the-making.

I have no idea why he has a rubber band around his head.
I don't ask petty questions anymore.

The good news of the day is,
K-Man is taking me out to dinner tonight!
GREEK food.
Sweet freedom, come to Mama.

And just so you know, not that it matters, I don't smoke.

spring break, spring cleaning and other springy things

I am determined to make the most of every single second
of our spring break.

Homeschooling four kids, three dogs, a cat and a forgotten number
of chickens,
{Ok no, I do not attempt to teach my pets anything}
I am so busy that my housework suffers greatly, projects go unfinished,
and outings never seem to happen.

So I'm on a mission to clean, clean, clean;
paint my bathroom,
sew like crazy
and I guess I'll try to entertain my kids in between it all.

Although I will be down to three
since Brenden is taking a ten hour road trip with
his buddies to go see a friend.
For those of you between my house and Nashville,
watch out.

Nick will be on the golf course most of the time,
so that leaves me with two girlies to
have fun with.

Ok, I gotta go...
things to do, make and clean.
