toot toot

Last night the girls and I took a tediously long trek
to Awana.

It was icy.

And I was stupid.

Why, oh why, would I try to brave such conditions?

Why?

Because Awana is THE highlight of Lucy's week.
She works so hard on her memory verses.
And more importantly (well, not really),
she gets to see her little friends.

And I will say this.

I am a darn good driver on the ice.
And most of those around me, are NOT.

It's true.

Perhaps it stems directly back to the fact that my sister
and I braved snow drifts the size of a sofa
in our '76 Pinto to get to Mrs. Jones' piano lessons.
On countless occasions.
Only because our mother made us.
(Not because we loved piano lessons)
It built character.
And impeccable driving skills.

Toot, toot, goes my own horn.

did i win?

Today my sweet girlies had their winter piano recital.

As we listened to the others who went first,
and Lucy's turn was drawing near,
she quietly but firmly announced to me
that she wasn't going to do it.

Ummm, what?

I just brushed her comment off and whispered that
she would be fine.
And that Mommy would cry if she didn't play her piece.
OK, I didn't say that last thing.
But that's exactly what would have happened had she backed out.
I haven't listened to "Up on the Housetop" for the past two months,
day in and day out, for nothing.

But I'm happy to say that she did it.
And did a fabulous job.

Pretend you see Lucy taking an traditional bow.

Later, it was Macy's turn.
And she did beautifully too.
Of course.

Great job, girls!

On the way home Lucy said,

"Mom, did I win?"

Me,
"What? What do you mean, did you win?"

Lucy,
"The recital, did I win it?"

Oh my word.
We've got quite a competitor on our hands.

Yes, my darling Lucy,
you WON.

just a normal sunday evening

Lest anyone think that we are lacking in fun around our house,
or that anyone gets away easily with taking a hearty nap....

well, I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Heeheehee.

And for some serious sweetness...

Lucy-bug's new-found piano talent is budding in a big way.

She is so stinkin' cute when she plays.
She is even going to be in the recital in December.

And Macy continues to flourish with her piano as well.

Talent abounds in our home.

We are SO proud!!

I'm working on the details of our Esther study.
Stay tuned!

lucy {the pianist}

Well.

I really am speechless.

Got nothin'.

Oh, but I will tell you this.

In the last month or so we noticed that Lucy would
ask Macy to show her how to play the piano...and then she'd repeat
over and over what Macy showed her, effortlessly.

I talked to Macy's teacher and she felt confident that Lucy
wasn't too young and that we could give it a try.

Well, she had her first lesson yesterday
and I think it's going to be a really good thing.

She loved it!

And since she LOVES to sing,
it will be quite entertaining
*and excruciatingly annoying to her siblings*
when she can sing AND play.

I'll keep you updated.

macy's recital

I am literally trying to gather myself and stuff together
for our road trip as I write this!
We're leaving for our vacatuion in just a little bit!
Branson, baby!

But I had to take just half a second to tell you that
Macy did BEAUTIFULLY at her
piano recital yesterday!!!

It was held at the home where she takes her lessons,
which was great because it was familiar to her.
Although I don't think that made her one ounce less nervous!

Isn't she cute?!

We took a video of it but our cord to post it to our computer
is MIA.

But trust me,
she played wonderfully and we are so very proud of her!!!

When we got home,
she was literally hopping around the kitchen.
I'm talkin', jumping for distance.

I just cracked up.

This is sooooo not like our girl!
Typical behavior of most kiddos, but not this one.

So apparently she was super relieved to have the recital behind
her that it literally gave her a spring in her step,
and a huge boost in her confidence.

Thank you, Lord!!

big weekend

Well, I don't have much to say.

And don't have a single pic to share with you.

Sad.

But I have a little window of time to write something so
I'll just ramble on a bit,
you can leave me a pleasant little comment,
then we can all get on with our day.

We've got a big weekend!

You'll never guess in a zillion years what our sweet, SHY Macy
is doing today!!

You don't have a clue do you??

Didn't think so.

Our brave girl is going to be in her very first piano recital tonight!!!

She just started lessons a few months ago
and has amazing talent!!
And tonight at 6:30 she gets to share it with the world!
Well, with a handful of parents anyway.

She's had a really bad cold the last couple of days so
please pray that she feels better and plays her very best.

Oh and if you've been around here a while, you know that Brenden
WAS taking lessons but ummm, gave them up. Grrrr.

THEN,
bright and early tomorrow morning we are going on
our premiere vacation as a family of 6!

I'm super excited!!

And Macy is too.
She is going to ride on her very first roller coaster!
Again, our shy girl surprises us by
being really eager to jump on board.

Pictures WILL be happenin'.

So,
that's it for now.
I'll do my very bestest to blog while we vaca, OK?
