my plague

So, the other day I noticed two little red bumps on my face.
They weren't zits, but I wasn't sure what they were.
I put some essential oils on them and didn't think much more about it.

But over the coming days,
the red bumps slowly morphed into a monster, of sorts.
No, not of sorts, it was a monster.
It IS a monster.

By Friday, it seemed better...but I felt I should go to the doctor, just in case.
But I didn't.
I slapped some make-up over the whole thing and went about my busy day.
(I'm pretty stubborn when it comes to taking time for such things.)
(And I sure as heck didn't want to waste $20 on a copay!)

(Throughout the week I had been trying this, that, and EVERYTHING I could think of to make it go away.)

Saturday morning I felt like it was better.
But by mid-day, I was a swollen, miserable train wreck.
And as I was pouring myself into packaging up a big pastry order,
tears were flowing and I announced that I needed to go to the urgent care office.

K-Man hopped into action and helped me finish up everything,
and out the door we went.
(Nick stayed home with the kiddos.)

Thank GOODNESS we aren't in the thick of flu season,
so the doctors' office was practically empty.
I got right in and the cute little nurse had a look of compassionate horror on her face
as she talked to me about what was going on.
She was so cute.  Without any facial deformities.  I was so jealous.

The first thing they ordered was an eye test to make sure my vision was okay,
because the swelling was pushing my eye half-closed.
But as always, my vision was amazing.
AMAZING!
The nurse was amazed by my amazing vision.
She said that.
So, I had that going for me.

After the final exam,
the Dr. prescribed antibiotics and mega-doses of oral steroids.
(Two things I try to avoid, dang it all.)
And one of the side effects warnings was,
"May cause a feeling of whirling motion."
Well, that sounded so fun!
It was the glimmer of hope that I needed.

Anyway, long story short, it is assumed that I have some kind of bug or spider bite.
I have no idea when or where this happened.
The thing is, I don't ever get bitten by anything!
Mosquitoes despise me, as do chiggers.  They avoid me like the plague!
And now I have a plague.

So anyway, all that said,
It is now Sunday morning, I was hoping to wake up looking and feeling a million
times better...but here I am, my eye is still swelled up, as is my entire left cheek.
But the redness has subsided, so that's good.

I look like a Ringling Brothers' circus freak, y'all.
I would post a picture, but I just can't bring myself to do so.
The shred of vanity and dignity I am clinging to simply won't allow it!
It's bad enough that my little kids keep walking by me,
taking a semi-close look without trying to look directly at me.

It was so sweet though,
as I was tucking Lucy and Isaiah into bed,
I started to pray with them, as usual, and Isaiah quickly interrupted me and said,
"Mama, can I pray?"
Of course!
And he wasted no time asking Jesus to help me feel better.
And he thanked Jesus for being able to go to church.

He's such a good little guy!

If you think of it, please pray for me.
I'm really in a miserable state and will be so very grateful when this is healed.
Thanks, friends!

OH, and one last thing, I've yet to experience the whirling motion.
And I'm none too happy about that.
Whatever.
Maybe I should take my next dose with a glass of wine.
Oh, never mind!

So weird! Even though your post is hilarious as always, I know this is strange and serious, and I am praying for you, sweet friend.

I love that you have an amazing sense of humor even in the midst of a horrific health crisis! (I know it isn't exactly horrific....just like that word!) Of course, the mental photo of your poor little face makes me think this is horrific!

I would love a $20.00 copay! Our is $35!

Okay back to Lori, I am praying and will continue to pray! May perfect healing be yours in the name of Jesus!
