the celebration

THANK YOU all for your sweet Happy Birthday
messages yesterday!
I kept showing Macy as they came in and
she was a bit confused as to what
the fuss was all about!
I told her that birthdays are a really big deal in America!

We had a simple celebration.....
Starting with, a FROM SCRATCH Chinese dinner...
made my ME.

Kung Pao Chicken that was
sooo yummy!!
And please note my redneck wok...
aka, cast iron skillet!
Can you tell I live in the heart of the
Midwest?

A cake loaded with candles,
of course!

Then a special card and a few gifts.

We ended the big day with....

EAR PIERCING!!!

I couldn't believe it when I had asked Macy
earlier in the day if she wanted to
get her ears pierced that she said YES!
I re-explained what I was talking about, just to make sure
and she totally understood and she confirmed her decision.
Woot!

Ok, she looks terrified....she probably was.
But she didn't even flinch...didn't even blink!!

Stupid me, I didn't take an after photo!
But she now has beautiful little "diamond" studs in
her teeny tiny ears.

I truly hope that her first American birthday
was as special to her as it was to us.

I'm impressed with your Chinese cooking! :) The cake was beautiful and she looks so cute sitting in front of it. Someday, she will realize that her 14th birthday WAS a big deal because she just made it to her family in the knick of time. God is never late. :)

Happy Birthday! Macy!!

BTW cast iron skillets make everything taste better! We are looking for a new stove and have ruled out a glass top because you can't use them with cast iron!!!
I'll be over for your next kung pao chicken dinner and I'll bring dog boy!! Sheri

Ooohhh---the Chinese cooking looks wonderful! I'm seriously impressed.

So glad your sweetie had such a special day. I forget that birthdays are not a big deal in many cultures--especially in orphanages. What a shame. PTL she's with you now :)

Love you, friend. Have a blessed weekend.

Good job on the chicken! I live 45 minutes from NYC and I don;t have a wok. lol. I think I like the *redneck* version just fine.

And I have to tell you, as soon as we get our little girl home and she is able ( shots caught up) She will be getting her ears pierced.

I am hispanic. Its the law. ;) lol.

OH and PS, I love the pictures in the previous post!

Dinner looks yummy! Glad she had a great day. The cake looks pretty too. My (then) 3yr old got her ears pierced and didn't flinch either. She's trying to talk her 10yr old sister into getting hers pierced:-)

Aw, yay! That cake is very pretty (I'm pretty sure you didn't make it though; my sister had the same one on her b-day this year haha). I'll bet she loved her birthday! I remember getting my ears pierced. I was terrified, but was too strong willed to show it. Yep, that's me. ;)

Stopping in via link from another blog. It's always a blessing to "meet" another family with a heart for adoption...you have such a beautiful family! Our 11 yr old came home ON her 10th bday...she didn't quite "get" the birthday thing then, but was certainly ready and waiting for it when it rolled around the next time a couple weeks ago. Happy Birthday Macy! Blessings, Jennifer in DE

Lori, I wouldn't take a million bucks for my cast iron skillet (passed down from the grannies).
Makes everything taste better! I couldn't imagine fixing pork chops or even cornbread in anything else!
