gyros [fail!]

I had such good intentions to bring to you my recipe for

Chicken Gyros.


(Very yummy looking, right?)

So puffy-proud of myself, I was, because I used my pre-cooked chicken
Which was going to be my prime example to you that
doing a few things ahead of time can make dinners-on-the-fly so easy and yummy
and oh-so-very easy.


But guess what Lori did?
(Speaking in third person diverts attention from me.)


Do you see?
Do you see what Lori did?


Gah!

Imagine my horror when, after a long-hard-laborious afternoon
of putting these gems together
(actually, it was about 15 minutes),
I bit into it, only to realize it was horribly...sweet.

Not right.
Not right at all.

I looked at the darned Greek yogurt container no less than
three times before I finally noticed that
it was VANILLA.

My entire world shattered into a million pieces.


But, no time to fret, we had to leave for church.
(Love Saturday night services!)


And I kid you not,
the entire time during serving in children's church,
I could think about nothing else besides stopping at Walmart on the way
home to get PLAIN yogurt and starting over.
Well, I had a super-great group of girls I was leading, 
so I did focus on them for much of the evening.
Still, in the back of my mind were my gyros, made correctly.


So, we stopped.
And I got my plain yogurt.



I felt much better after that.

I made up some new Tzatiki sauce and we dipped our remaining
pitas (aka, soft tortillas), and all was right with the world.
Lucy even dipped her Oreos into it.


Anyway, all that to say,
the wind was totally knocked out of my sails,
as far as blogging about it goes.

I actually got up around 4:45 AM
and made myself a gyro because of my intense craving.
But...it just wasn't fabulous.
So...until I can really hone the recipe, I'm going to leave it at that.

I'm so mean, I know!

Well, if you want to experiment for yourselves,
try this:

To make your Tzatziki Sauce,
throw together,

PLAIN Greek yogurt
Lemon juice
Diced cucumber
Greek seasoning


For your meat,
which I really do highly recommend lamb instead of chicken,
season also with lemon juice
and Greek seasoning.


So sorry for my NOT-so-helpful recipe post.
It's just one of those things.





I'm going to go crawl under the covers now, okay?

Did you give yourself a Greek name?

Or is name-giving reserved for successful recipes?
