Chocolate Desperation Remedy....maybe

Ok folks, you will love this (well, maybe). My mom sent me a dreaded forwarded email. With reluctance, I opened it....and boy was I glad I did. It not only provided blog material but also our science experiment of the day!!

If (WHEN) you are desperate for chocolate...but have none, try this 5-Minute Microwave Mug cake for yourself! (Recipe below)

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly..

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again..
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT ! This can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous. (On what planet ?)

The taste results?? Ummmm....well, if you are really, really needing chocolate then I suppose it will work for ya. But it was very spongy and well....I only ate about a 1/3 of it if that tells you anything.

UPDATE: After the leftover cake sat for a while (a short while), it turned VERY dense and hard. Based on our scientific opinions....we don't recommend this cake, unless you could tweak it to improve it greatly. It was, however, a fun experiment!

I'll have to try this!

I recently found a recipe for an individual chocolate cake that uses fewer ingredients & is also microwavable. First you mix together a box of chocolate cake mix with a box of instant chocolate pudding and a handful of chocolate chips. This is stored in a ziploc bag. Then whenever the urge hits me, I mix 1/2 cup of this mixture with 1 egg, 1 TBS oil and 1 TBS water in a soup crock. Microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds.

I like it, though it is a little spongy/squishy/melty like you mentioned. However, that hasn't stopped me from making myself one almost nightly for the past three weeks! YIKES! Summer is coming...........
