So this happened...{ahhh!}

Okay, friends...listen up.
For the last almost two weeks I've been slightly/fairly/kinda freaked out, but sorta not.
BECAUSE, my last period never came.  Hello?  Where are you?  What's the delay?

Menopause, is that you?  Helllllo?

Or....good heavens, old-lady pregnancy????

I completely knew that I knew that there was just almost no way I
could possibly be pregnant.  But stranger things have happened, and, my fresh-out-of-nursing-school
sister told me that it's been known to happen...so I better make sure.

Well, I still felt certain that I wasn't.
Surely not.
Surely God's sense of humor isn't twisted like that.  Right?

I had been to Walmart several times in the last week or so and briefly glanced at the pregnancy tests.
Thinking to myself, I will NOT spend $4 on something I already know.

I will not.
I cannot.

But this morning I had the sniffles and a stuffy head and ran by WM to get some cold medicine.
And then I couldn't help but think to myself, what if there is a little bean-of-a-baby in my belly!
I can't take cold meds!
What kind of monster am I anyway?
My poor little surprise-bundle-of-joy needs to be nurtured!

So I bought a test.

I intended to discuss it with the check-out clerk, you know, because that's how I am.
But the test got all mixed up in all my other stuff that I forgot.
I'm sure she saw it and is still on the edge of her seat wondering!

Anyway, I ran home, and went straight to the bathroom.

And right out of the gate, that sucker screamed NEGATIVE.

NEGATIVE!!!!!

So that means that I probably missed because of stress and/or menopause!
Hooray for stress and/or menopause!!!

Then I immediately texted K-Man.

And then I sat down for a nice healthy non-pregnancy snack!

I won't lie, as relieved as I truly am...I'm kinda disappointed!
A little caboose bio-baby for this crazy-train family would have been fun.

But I'm perfectly content to hold out for grand babies.  (In due time.)

Happy Monday, everyone!!

And really, I think I deserve a refund of my $4, dang it.

***UPDATE***

Wouldn't you just know it.  Just hours after taking that blasted pregnancy test,
I started my dang period!
Only me, you guys, only me.

And now I REALLY want my $4 back!

When Kids Pack Lunches {Isaiah-Style}

Because I am a progressive mom (and by that I mean, I am slowly progressing to being a moderately reasonably smart mother-figure to the little,  mid-size, and big people around me), I make the kiddos contribute to making their lunches for school.

But, of course, I have to oversee the littlest two...because, otherwise, they'll end up with a lunch like this:
When I gave Isaiah's lunchbox a quick glance yesterday morning, I noticed he had only packed two little rounds of pepperoni and chocolate pudding.  But God bless him for remembering a spoon!

So I made him rethink his packed mid-day meal...and he came up with this:
He added to his pepperoni, half a tortilla, cheddar cheese cubes, and cheese puffs.  All in one sandwich bag, no less, because it saved on baggies (his words), so why not?  So thrifty, this one!  Though he did report to me at the end of the day that his cheese puffs were less than delicious and crispy, as we all could have predicted, except him.  That's an important life-lesson right there.

And not only was he not on his lunch-game, he has his shirt on backwards.

And he could not have cared less.  Nope, he wore it backwards all the day long, without a care in the world.

May we all be more like Isaiah!  Carefree, whimsical, and packing our entire lunch into one sandwich bag, just because!  Even if it means sacrificing our cheese puffs.

Have a blessed and Isaiah-like Thursday, my thrifty/cheesy friends!

Me-Time {not as planned}

This may or may not be (it is) the direct result of me just happening upon an individually frozen brownie in the freezer, which just happened to have a carton of ice cream next to it, which found its way into a bowl, and was magically topped off with chocolate sauce and walnuts.  All as a direct result of my Christmas-Break-Is-Finally-Over-Hallelujah Day turning terribly wrong when all schools were cancelled due to weather.

Blast it all!

So I ate this.  Directly resulting in every calorie I shed on the treadmill this morning being in vain.  Even-Steven, is what I'm thinking.

Unrelated to all of that, I've got it on my to-do list this week to get started on tackling the mountainous task of purging and organizing my closet.  Heavy on the purging!  I should show you a picture of how it looks right now, but I think I'll hold off until I can quickly follow it with an after picture.  Although, maybe showing you now would kick me into high gear knowing I need to get it done, lest you think I'm some sort of TV-worthy hoarder.  Let me ponder on that.

I think I'll go get started!  At least I'll get some quiet Me-Time that I am desperately craving.

And so help me, if school is cancelled tomorrow, I'm going to reorganize the attic and not come down until all the children are job-holding adults with homes of their own.

Happy Monday, my people!

10 Ways You Know You're a Mom on New Year's Eve

You know you're a seasoned mom on New Year's Eve when:

1.  You awake bright and early, with no intention of leaving the house or actually staying up until midnight.

2.  You mention nothing to your little children about the rest of the world staying up until midnight.

3.  You excitedly plan a sophisticated menu of horderves:  Pigs in a blanket, Rotel cheese dip, and a bowl of Chex Mix.

4.  You have a strong conviction that confetti and noise-makers are of the devil and will not be tolerated at your 8 PM celebration to bring in the new year.

5.  Your pajamas are your version of a sequin party gown.  And you feel comfortably glamorous!

6.  You have no champagne in your house.  Ginger-ale in plastic cups for all!

7.  You enjoy a nice celebratory board game with your children, while rotating loads of laundry, loading the dishwasher, and sweeping the kitchen floor, in between your turns.

8.  You brace yourself for the fact that it will be July before your stop writing the wrong year on checks.

9.  You throw caution to the wind and have a cup of coffee after 4 PM, in order to be the wide-eyed party girl that you are.

10.  You awake bright and early on New Year's Day.

Happy New Year, my friendly friends!
