spring has sprung {snakes abound}

Spring has sprung.
The weather is warm.
The flowers are blooming.
And summertime, looming.

Somebody stop me.

So far in the last week we've found three, count them, THREE snakes.

Though I am not an alarmist,
this does alarm me, moderately.

Mostly because if I happen to encounter one myself,
I know it will completely catch me off guard
and I will likely never resume any kind of normalcy.
My carefree life as I know it will be over.
Gone forever.

So I hereby pledge to not leave the safety of my concrete driveway
without my rubber boots on.

No need to hold me accountable,
I will not forget this promise.
I assure you.

Pics of today's find, for your pleasure...

K-man is the bravest man I know.
And he does everything he can to rattle my courage-less cage, every chance he gets.

The kids seem to be taking after him,
and not me.
Which is good since they will likely be the ones to save me
when I do encounter my first snake alone.
My life is depending on them.
I hope they understand that.

Look how Lucy is fearlessly wrestling with that massive invertebrate.
She's a beauty, she is.
(Insert Steve Irwin accent)

It's a happy day when dad brings home dinner.
Just kidding.

Don't you worry.
We set this little darling free.
Black snakes are non-poisonous and a good thing to have around.
Far, far from Lori.

Then it was business back to usual.
As if nothing happened.
All the while,
I'm curled up in a corner in the fetal position.

The End.

I'm with you. I am horribly afraid of snakes. I have a feeling we won't be seeing many in this new home of ours...I'm hoping!

Oh, dear Lord. I would have run screaming to the next state. Or country. In my book, you were pretty brave.

Now I'm in fetal position. That snake is HUUUUGE. I don't think I'm going to get over this post fora long, long time. I can't believe a snake that big. I think I may be too much of a city slicker.

Was that just one snake? The one looks like it has a design...we have a lot of garter snakes, but they can still get pretty long. and I don't like to find them sunning themselves in my garden...thus one ended up ummm lying in the sun a very long time.
My newest son was impressed.

I do not like snakes at all either but you are braver than me, there is no way I could be outside taking pics of the dang thing! I know they are suppose to be good but I have to have whom ever finds one kill it, sorry to all the reptile lovers out there but I freak out with snakes! Your kids are brave though, my girls take after me and could never get that close. Hailey and I avoid the reptile house at the zoo even!

Whoa Nellie- that is one extra large snake!

Yikes again...

You better stay inside!

Oh my stars. Oh.My.Stars. Seriously??? Oh my word, girl I'm freaking out just thinking about it. Hate hate snakes so much. SO MUCH! If I saw that thing in my yard I'd likely be calling 911 in a hysterical fit. Wow. Just wow. Wow.

And now do you realize you are getting "monster snake" Titanaboa advertisements on your page?? Good gracious, hurry up and post something about baking quick! LOL

Amen for rubber muck boots! I do not generally step foot into the woods or tall grass without them because of my fear of snakes. Your pictures alone are enough to make me queasy.
Are your chickens' nesting boxes protected? Unfortunately that is a common place to find them. After they've devoured the eggs of course.

AMEN Sister!

That thing is HUGE!!

I'm ok with them as long as they are OUTSIDE and far away from ME!!

I totally could not live in the south. The 1st time I found one even in the garage I would be be standing on the table demanding that my husband pack the house and carry me out of there!!

I can stay calm if I am the only adult around--but if there is another, I'm a big chicken. Have no fear, your kids will surely rescue you=) Reminds me of when my 5yo (who is now 20) daughter enjoyed getting enormous frogs out of the pool before we swam.
