Dinner Party

I can remember not so long ago when we would go out to dinner and feed our family for a reasonable amount of clams (unless it was Red Lobster where we would eat the clams). Well what has happened here?? What happened to the days when my boys would share a kids' meal...and there would be leftovers? What happened to the days when one chicken finger (seriously, who thought of that name?? That's creepy...I have chickens & their "fingers" are disgusting) and two french fries would fill them up for a good three hours? And in light of the election...why aren't the candidates talking about tax credits for those of us taking out loans to finance teenage boys' appetites? Why isn't Wal Mart sending me thank-you notes regularly for ensuring their profitability each month? What's up with my 13 year old protesting Nabisko because of their insensitive neglect to make triple-stuffed Oreos (triple-stuffed?)?? **SIGH** This isn't just another rant from a desperate-housewife-blogger....this is ME. I need help. Now.

So here's my idea....send me your family-friendly recipes for meals that will leave my clan assuming that I spent hours in the exotic ingredients aisle at a specialty grocery store...meals that have only two ingredients (ok maybe three) but will convince my kin that I have somehow found the time to go to culinary school. Recipes that will open up a whole new world of ideas on brilliant ways to mix hamburger and macaroni.

Forget Rachael Ray, who needs Emeril, Betty Crocker?? Please. The best recipes are from real people with real families. Email me at BloggerLori@aol.com your favorite go-to dinner ideas then I will share them with all of you!

ok, here's a fave that is sure to be a filler upper.....(I'm not good with recipes so you will have to go with me)

For your size family....

Hamburger (maybe 2lbs??)
2 cans of mushroom soup (don't tell them)
2 cans french cut green beans (they will think fancy with french cut beans!)
mashed potatoes (your own or even better the ones that you buy in a box that are like "loaded baked potato flavor!!)
Cheese

Brown hamburger, drain grease and mix with soup. Spread over bottom of large baking dish. Spread drained beans over that, spread mashed potato's over that. Add a healthy layer of cheese and bake until hot.

Add parsley for a garnish for a "fancy" touch and maybe a sprinkle of paprika.

If it is a failure tell them you got the recipe off the internet and they will understand. I mean really, you can only trust the internet for so much (you know, friends and such) Online recipes are a little sketchy!

I loved Mom's comment! That sounds like the best menu plan there is. :)
Gourmet cook I am NOT, but here's where I started keeping my basics and other links when I need inspiration.

So I read your post not long after you posted (after all, I walk by continually sliding my fingers over - or so our husbands insist - dorks!)but didn't comment cause I am pretty tired of all my recipes after 30+ years of them...

But after reading your mom's comment I burst out laughing.... obviously yours is keeping tabs on you...for real, I am sitting here just laughing and laughing...

Anyway, for a real meal deal, I think you should pack up those sweet sons of yours, your darling and precious daughter, throw your hubby in for good measure and head over here and we will make whateva we feel like when you get here....and when you pass thru Simla just shout out a 'howdy' to them thar kinfolk of mine and if you are driving fast enough you might send their head a spinnin as they try to figure out which of themz three eyes to catch y'all with...

Come on now...and youz and me will get us some thar coffee at my fav shop (a la carte - which in this case means - without children or hubby's - bless their hearts)...

Love you!! me

Ok, so here's my take as a man, for a good week of menus - i'm not a blogger, not very good at the spelling either, but i can eat - and on behalf of Kelly, i offer this very solid advice...
Sunday - Papa Murphy's pizza
Monday - Chicken wings for Monday night football
Tuesday - 4 Big Macs-for your big man and one kids meal to split - let the kids remember - they'll never complain again...
Weds - Papa Murphy's pizza
Thursday - Kentucky Fried chicken
Friday - change it up - eat out at a steak house - your mom's treat - ask mom if i can come too
Saturday - salad bar at Denny's - good chance everyone will be sick for one week so this menu takes care of two weeks - you get a week off and none of your family will every complain again... ok back to my sermon -
